For our very first Fortnite Map, we wanted to have someone who knew what they were doing help us create the map so we could more quickly learn how to make maps.
We decided to outsource our first map and worked pretty closely with a developer in India.
We consulted with the developer on which type of map he thought would do well. He said a “Red vs Blue” map would do well, amongst others.
We had already looked at which types of maps were most popular and noticed that RvB games do really well accross the board.
We settled on a Red vs Blue map. (See: Red vs Blue Fortnite Code)
It took the developer only three or four days to send us the map he’d created.
The map looked fun and had elements that we hadn’t thought of adding.
We thought a Red vs Blue map might do well but there are a ton of them.Â
How could we differentiate our map from the others and still make it fun and playable?

Red vs Blue vs Zombies
My daughter loves playing against zombies, so zombies were the perfect addition.
Image concepts.
The scariest thumbnail below caused Epic to reject our first submission.
We think it was due to the blood, which falls under “Gore”. We had to resubmit the map with a softer zombie with no blood or wounds.
*Pro Tip – keep your images kid-friendly to pass Epic review
Version 1.0 Release
11.13.23
Version 1.0 passed.
The problem was, the lighting looked horrible in gameplay.
We updated the lighting and resubmitted the map and failed!
They mentioned that the promotional image didn’t pass the review.
We updated the images to not have any promotional language–probably because we named the map “Zombie XPocalypse”. We aren;t supposed to be promoting the map as an XP map.
Epic isn’t too clear on what the real issues are.
11.14.23
Failed again after updating the images to not have any text.
We submitted it again and are going to try to update the IARC answers to see if that’s causing the issues.
Luckily, the original map that was accepted is still up and being played.
We’ll let you know how this next submission goes.
